Hoover & Strong will be closed from December 25 through January 1 for our holiday break. Note about Holiday Delivery: Due to an increased, record high gold market, many customers have waited to place their holiday orders. Now that gold rates have decreased and stabilized, we have recently received an unusually large number of orders and cannot guarantee delivery by Christmas for any orders that were placed after November 26. We do have stock for many standard 14KY, 14KW and 18KY items, but can’t guarantee non-standard karats, colors, platinum and make-to-order products. We truly appreciate your business and wish you a successful, happy and healthy holiday season.

how we process your scrap

The moment your scrap shipment is weighed in at our refining division, it is entered into our computerized refining flow system. The shipment is checked and double-checked through every step of the refining process. Each lot, regardless of size, receives the same careful attention to ensure you a maximum return.

It is essential for your material to be properly melted before assay. Clean scrap is mixed with a special flux which makes the melt more fluid and homogeneous. Our experienced processors will ensure that the optimum flux mixture and melting technique is used.

The melt is poured into a mold where the metal settles to the bottom and the slag created by the flux remains on top taking some of the non-metallic impurities with it. The bars are then returned to our vault to be weighed and sampled, where they will remain until you have been paid for your scrap. READ MORE
