How to Set TruSeat® Bands - A Tutorial

Hoover & Strong's TruSeat® bands are ready to set. The difficult and time-consuming handwork to prepare the ring for stone placement is no longer necessary. Now, precision machining creates the seats and special grooves in the sides of the band walls. TruSeat® bands are available in full and partial channels for round and princess cuts.
Step 1: Choosing The Correct Stone Size
You must start by choosing the correct stone dimension — especially important in setting anniversary bands. Stones that are too large will not snap into the channel. Stones that are too small will have gaps in-between and easily drop out. For ideal stone diameter by point size refer to the Diamond Carat to Millimeter Conversion Chart on our website or on page 14 of the Hoover & Strong Product and Services catalog.
Step 2: Inserting The Stone
Insert the stone girdle into groove with the opposite side resting on top. Use a pair of tweezers or a beeswax point to help with handling the stone. Apply downward pressure to the raised side of the stone until it snaps into its groove. Use a piece of shaped hardwood or plastic to push the stone into place to prevent chipping or damage. The gem will be loose in the channel; however it should not drop out when turned upside down. When setting a partial channel, be sure to insert the end stones first. Once the end stones are in place, the other stones can be easily snapped into the channel.
Step 3: Securing And Finishing
Once all stones are inserted into the channel, secure them by bending the walls over the stones.

Traditional Method:
1. Squeeze the walls in toward the stone with a pair of pliers.
2. Push the wall tops over the stones with hammer and punch or with a hand piece hammer in a flex shaft machine.
3. Burnish edges smooth.
Fast and Easy Method:
Roll the walls over the stones with a Stone-Set Ring Enlarger bench top unit. This method is very fast and leaves a great finish on the upper edges of the channel walls.
